KATE MADIGAN // Kaneohe, Hawaii, USA

Tuesday at Hawaii State Hospital we made a “wish tree.” July 7rh is traditionally celebrated in Japan with a celebration called Tanabata Festival and they make wish trees. A couple of days ago hundreds of patients and staff wrote down their wishes and they hung them up. Art that excites me is art that brings people together, brings out the best in people. In this wish tree our Hospital community was able to be reminded how strong we are, how much we have, care about each other, and would do for each other.

One level of healing is an effort to address cultural healing between Japanese and Americans here on Oahu where Pearl Harbor is.
